United States Senate
Washington, DC 20510

Dear Senator Nelson:

Just as a reminder, you did not respond to my last E-mail letter.  I am from Nebraska and you “sir” represents me, I think!  I will make the following observations.  They are:

  1. The democrats still do not get it, by the remarks from the leadership!  Why?
  2. How can taxing the rich create more jobs?  I must be “dumb” as taking more money from them

will not create more jobs, just less!

  1. The lack of jobs stills remains over 9 percent.  What have you done to create more jobs?
  2. Our son-in-law lives in Germany with our daughter, who is a Military LTC, and neither received absentee ballots!  Why?  They are residents of D.C., both the D.C. leadership and you have failed our service member!  I am ashamed of both of you!
  3. It is my thoughts that your announcing your views for 2010 will not work if you think that your past record in Nebraska will help you.  You will be judged on your Senator’s work and you cannot fool the people from Nebraska!
  4. If you vote for a tax increase and do not extend the current rate, you will soon understand what a vote means!
  5. Why is the government paying millions to dead people?
  6. When a youth rides a bike with the American flag on it and our schools say no, is this the same American that I know?  Our society is too political correct and cannot accept what our country represents!
  7. When Wal-Mart tells an employee not to wear a T shirt with compliments to the military and her son, I will not shop with them anymore period!
  8. What are you going to do to decrease the national debt?  Explain?
  9. Just maybe, you should call me and explain your thoughts on my comments?  It might help my attitude at this time!
  10. I certainly would like to compliment you and the Democrats now but cannot!
  11. Last, I will not receive a COLA for two years!  Why?  Why is our Social Security funds placed in the general fund?  They should be separate!  Explain?

Once again, I will place this on my personal web site – www.woodlakenebraskalinks.com for my audience to read.  Thank you for reading my letter.

RE:  Medicare Cuts Bill and Arlington Headstones Problems

Dear Senator:

On May 29th I had a mild heart attack and I spent four days in Bryan Hospital.  I received the billing today just for the hospital stay and that was $39,000 plus dollars.  This does not include the doctor bill or visits.  Then I learned to day that the senate did not act in a timely manner for the 21 percent cut in Medicare payments.  The public is paying Senators more then $185,000 a year to do a job and what do we get for our votes?  This bill should have been worked on several months ago but everyone is too eager to “punch: BP in the noise for the oil problem.  The hearings were a “joke” just re-active in nature from a bunch of, in my observation, “dime store lawyers”!  Read my lips Senator Nelson, and you should have my comments, concerns and anything else you can think of!

Second, the Arlington National Cemetery problem should be the last problem we have in Washington period!  Who gets hired in Washington that needs to create problems such as this?  The superintendent manager probably is related to someone that is how they received the position.  What a disgrace to our nation and our war heroes of the past and present.

I only hope that we have a big “shakeup” for the election this fall and two years from now.  I could do better with one arm tied behind my back even at the age of 75.  You need not be concerned about my vote in the future that is a “done deal”!

Thank you for reading my letter,

Sincerely,

Received from Senator Nelson April 25 2010

Dear Claude:

Thank you for contacting me regarding the Restoring American Financial Stability Act, S. 3217. The Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs has now moved this legislation to the floor of the Senate, and I look forward to the upcoming debate.

I share your concerns about some aspects of financial regulatory reform proposals.  I, too, am apprehensive about over-regulation, the creation of a new "alphabet agency" with such broad authority, and the separation of consumer protection from prudential supervision.  That being said, I recognize that something must be done to close the gaps in our overall financial regulatory structure and improve mechanisms to avoid a financial catastrophe such as the one we just faced.  We also must protect consumers - and our financial system - from the type of unregulated institutions which played such a significant role in reckless subprime lending and other harmful and predatory practices.  I look forward to a constructive dialogue as the full Senate takes on this complicated issue.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact me.  I realize that the issue of financial regulatory reform is of great importance to you, and I always appreciate hearing your concerns.  I will certainly keep your thoughts in mind as the plans for financial regulation move forward.

Sincerely,

Ben Nelson

                        RE:  Legislation (S-3217)

Dear Senator Nelson:

I hold a deep concern regarding the above Legislation and what it will do to my insurance Company (USAA).

The concerns are:

  1. Prevent USAA from managing the association’s portfolio as they did in the past for 87 years.
Jeopardize there ability to continuing to offer many competitive products.
  2. Limit there ability to return money to the members in the form of distributions, dividends and bank rebates and rewards.

Is it possible that our government is creating a socialist state by controlling everything that runs our economy?  Portion of this bill know as the “Voicker Rule” seems to be not in the best interest of the company or myself.  Would you please explain your opinion and what you will do when this bill gets voted on?  Your response is requested.  As usual, I will post this letter to you on my web site – www.woodlakenebraskalinks.com.  Thank you

Dear Senator Nelson:

Obviously you will vote for this health bill this coming week and not listen to your Nebraska Citizens’ voice about not wanting this bill in the present format.  The meeting with the Democrats and Republicans was as phony as saying the world is “square”.  As far as I cam concerned the President was rude did not care what the Republicans said or wanted to have in this bill and used his power several times to make his dislikes known and him being “boss” to the public.  This was a disgrace.

Therefore, I will not wait to hear the outcome of this bill and tell you up front that Yvonne and I will not longer vote for you as our Nebraska Senator.  It is our observation that you have made poor choices in the health bill procedure, contents and outcome and we will not accept this in way, fashion or form.  When governor you displayed “grit” in making good and great choices for Nebraska but now it is nothing but politics being a politician not a statesman!  That is great as it makes our decision very easy now.

Once again, I will place this on my personal web site – www.woodlakenebraskalinks.com for my audience to read.  Thank you for reading my letter.

Dear Senator Nelson:

Your most recent comments about accepting the Health Bill says to me that you have met with the Republicans and have accepted some of there ideas!  This I doubt very seriously as nothing states that a person can go to another state for health insurance.  I only hope that you did not lie to me about TRI Care for Life as you stated that it will continue with this draft bill in place.  It is my observation that the Senate and House is the worst for being accepted by the American people in the history of United States.  Most in Washington are only interested in what party they belong to and not what is good for the American people.

Top priority should be the non-employed now.  With 10 to 17 percent not working, this should be the first priority and not the health bill.  If this new proposed bill by the President does not contain some of the Republicans ideas, my family will not vote for you in the next election.  You have had ample time to consider what is good for the nation and the people that you serve.  I can only say that I am totally saddened by your views, ideas, and voting record to date.   Until, the finally outcome of this bill happens, I will give you sufficient grounds to think about the bill and what the future hold for you.  For now, time is on your side and I hope that you make sound, prudent and just decisions in this upcoming process.

As before, I will post this letter on my web side – www.woodlakenebraskalinks.com so that the people can understand and have my record of comments.  Thank you

February 12, 2010

Dear Claude:

Thank you for contacting me regarding health care reform.  I appreciate hearing from you on this critical issue.

On December 24, 2009, I voted for the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), H.R. 3590, which passed the Senate by a vote of 60‑39.  I did everything in my power to make significant improvements to this health reform bill.  The product of weeks of negotiation, the PPACA contains many changes which will benefit Nebraskans and all Americans now and well into the future.

I made it my goal to prevent any government-run insurance program from being established and to ensure that the new coverage offered is built upon the private system we have today.  In fact, I worked to ensure that this bill will:

o   Not allow a single taxpayer penny to be spent for abortion coverage.  The bill requires that health plans receiving federal subsidies and offering abortion coverage collect separate premiums for the procedure from customers, and keep the money in a separate account segregated from federal funds.  I also fought to ensure that abortion-free insurance coverage options are available to all consumers; to provide grants to pregnant teens and college students to help them stay in school; and to extend and increase the adoption tax credit. With these provisions, this bill will not only prohibit federal funding for abortion, but work to greatly reduce the number of abortions performed.

o   Reduce the federal deficit by $134 billion by 2019, and by as much as $1.3 trillion by 2029.

o   Extend the solvency of the Medicare program by an additional nine years, to 2026.

o   Narrow the Medicare prescription drug "donut hole" coverage gap for Medicare beneficiaries.

o   Provide affordable coverage to more than 30 million uninsured Americans, and stop the current shift of uncompensated care costs to those of us with insurance coverage.

o
Reform insurance practices to end denials for pre-existing conditions, ban lifetime and annual limits, and require insurance companies to pay out, at a minimum, 80 cents in medical care for every dollar they receive.

o   Control health care costs well into the future, while improving quality and access.

As stated before, I sought to make improvements to this bill to ensure that the final plan provides Americans with reliable and secure health care at all stages of their lives.  I would not allow the government to take steps toward a single-payer, nationalized health care system; and on all these critical components, we were successful.

An important part of my decision was the fact that had this bill not been approved with my vote, the alternative for the Senate leadership was to use a procedure called "Budget Reconciliation."  This procedure would have enabled passage of a much less conservative bill, requiring only 51 votes in the Senate.  I supported this bill for two reasons:  first, because the reconciliation alternative would have included a government-run plan and would not have been as beneficial for Nebraskans; and second, because it will deliver relief from rising health care costs to Nebraska families, workers, rural communities, and employers.  This bill takes a market-based approach, offering tax credits for middle-class Americans to help make insurance more affordable; and it improves the delivery of health care for all of us while reducing the deficit.

I have posted links to the legislation, as well as other resources pertaining to the current health care reform debate, on the Health Reform feature on my website at:

http://bennelson.senate.gov/feature_healthcare.cfm

I hope you find this information useful.

As you may know, negotiations are now taking place to generate a final piece of legislation to be approved by the Senate and House of Representatives. I will fully examine the merged bill upon its completion; and when it comes time to cast a final vote, I will only support a bill if it will work for Nebraskans.

I am truly thankful that so many Nebraskans such as yourself have shared their opinions and ideas with me on this crucial matter.  Rest assured I will keep them in mind as Congress needs the input of all Americans to resolve such an important issue.

Sincerely,

Ben Nelson

Dear Senator Nelson:

Last night I listened and studied the President’s speech and it was my observation that he was nervous, ridged and not happy about the election in Massachusetts with Scott Brown winning the senate seat.  Overall, the speech sounded good to some but it still contained much of the same rhetoric as his past speeches just toned down in some areas and blaming some on the past administration.

But let’s talk about your most recent E-mail that you sent me yesterday about some of my previous concerns and questions.  First, thank you for being specific, clear, and concise about TRI-CARE for Life for the military family.  Is your specific comment directed to now or when the draft health bill is law?  I am not completely at “ease” yet but feel more comfortable about the care for our military family and retired members.  My gut feeling tells me that the present bill in the house and senate should be scrapped and started over with both parties being involved.  Too much of the Senate bill was done behind closed doors without any additions or changes by the Republicans.  I feel that this year will provide some drastic changes in our senate by electing new people for the job.  After serving in office too much power is developed and channeled in the wrong direction if you are the party in charge!  Until you stop with your ads about health care, my wife and I will not vote for you in 2012!

Our door is still closed Senator Nelson and will remain so until some of my questions are answered and your ultimate vote for against this bill.  Both you and your staff can read this e-mail on my web site – www.woodlakenebraskalinks.com

January 18 2010

Dear Claude:

Thank you for contacting me regarding health care reform and benefits for our military and veterans.  I appreciate hearing from you on this critical issue.

Fair and equitable treatment for our active and retired servicemembers has always been one of my highest priorities. Those who have risked their lives to protect our nation deserve not only our deepest respect, but also our enduring commitment to their care and well-being. That is why I have taken a lead role in both defending military benefit programs from cuts and pushing to expand such programs when appropriate.

America certainly has an obligation to provide the best health care for the men and women who have served in our nation's armed forces. Sadly, this is not a commitment which we as a nation have always kept.  As a member of the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Personnel, I am familiar with the challenges faced by our servicemembers and veterans. Ensuring adequate care and benefits for those who fight for our country has been one of my top priorities in the Senate. I agree wholeheartedly that we should all demonstrate our appreciation and make it easier for our veterans to receive their well-deserved health care. Therefore, I have consistently supported increased funding for the U.S. Department of Veterans' Affairs (VA) and improved benefits for our military personnel and veterans, as well as their dependents and survivors.

On December 24, 2009, I voted for the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), H.R. 3590, which passed the Senate by a vote of 60‑39.  I did everything in my power to make significant improvements to this health reform bill.  The product of weeks of negotiation, the PPACA contains many changes which will benefit Nebraskans and all Americans now and well into the future; however, let me assure you there are no changes to the benefits available to military servicemembers and retirees under TRICARE or TRICARE for Life.

The proposed changes to TRICARE benefits you referenced can indeed be found in a report from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO). But it is important to note that this is a biannual report in which the CBO proposes a wide range of options for Congressional consideration in the budget process. The report is designed to inform Congress about the potential effects of a variety of possible actions so that those actions can be carefully considered in light of all relevant facts. It is by no means a binding document and, in fact, often includes far-reaching proposals, which are intended more for discussion purposes than for actual implementation.

Within H.R. 3590, I made it my goal to prevent any government-run insurance program from being established and to ensure that the new coverage offered is built upon the private system we have today.  In fact, I worked to ensure that this bill will:

o   Make sure that only lawful residents receive coverage.  Page 161 of the bill clearly states that only people who are in the United States legally can be covered under a health plan offered through an Exchange.

o   Not allow a single taxpayer penny to be spent for abortion coverage. With these provisions, this bill will not only prohibit federal funding for abortion, but work to greatly reduce the number of abortions performed.

o   Reduce the federal deficit by $134 billion by 2019, and by as much as $1.3 trillion by 2029.

o   Extend the solvency of the Medicare program by an additional nine years, to 2026.

o   Narrow the Medicare prescription drug "donut hole" coverage gap for Medicare beneficiaries.

o   Provide affordable coverage to more than 30 million uninsured Americans, and stop the current shift of uncompensated care costs to those of us with insurance coverage.

o   Reform insurance practices to end denials for pre-existing conditions, ban lifetime and annual limits, and require insurance companies to pay out, at a minimum, 80 cents in medical care for every dollar they receive.

o   Control health care costs well into the future, while improving quality and access.

I have posted links to the legislation, as well as other resources pertaining to the current health care reform debate, on the Health Reform feature on my website at:

http://bennelson.senate.gov/feature_healthcare.cfm

I hope you find this information useful.

As you may know, both chambers' health care reform bills are now being brought together in conference committee, undergoing further deliberation and compromise to generate a final piece of legislation to be approved by the Senate and House of Representatives.

I have been pleased to see a consensus develop around insurance reforms that will help ensure affordability and strengthen coverage and choice for those with insurance, and ultimately cover millions who cannot obtain coverage today. Guaranteeing affordable coverage, eliminating pricing based on health status, and no longer excluding individuals due to pre-existing conditions will provide American families with reliable and secure health care.  I believe meaningful health reform is within reach, and the President and Congress must find common ground to improve care by lowering cost and expanding access, while not worsening the deficit.

Thank you again for contacting me.  I always appreciate hearing from civic-minded Nebraskans such as yourself and encourage you to continue sharing your thoughts and ideas.

 Dear Senator Nelson:

It was certainly interesting to hear the President say “this issue is not just for Democrats” but for all; yet all of the hearing have been behind closed doors to Republicans!  And about your staff, it is my observation that you do not get to read my letters only what they want you to see and hear!  That’s ok though, as I post my entire letters on my web site for the world to view and read, and they do!  It is my recommendation that your staff starts looking for new jobs now and not wait till 2012!

About your ads senator, it is my observation that you are just pouring water down the drain in Nebraska as your polls reveal that you are at 42 percent!  I am sure you know how they got to that point by now.  You cannot even answer my question about TRI-CARE for Life for the military family so how can you expect to have polls numbers high like your counter part!  It is my hope that Mr. Brown wins and that most of you have to eat “crow”.  Soon we will know the outcome, won’t we?  Oh, when your ads come on I turn to another TV station and that takes care of the matter!  Your positive image in Nebraska is now gone Senator and you will understand if you decide to run for another term!  Last, you still have an opportunity to say “NO” on the bill but that will not happen!

Our door is still closed Senator Nelson and will remain so until some of my questions are answered and your ultimate vote for against this bill.  Both you and your staff can read this e-mail on my web site – www.woodlakenebraskalinks.com

Dear Senator Nelson:

On fox news today, I learned that you made a comment about reading the fine print in the proposed health bill.  Well Senator Nelson, it sure would have been nice to have this opportunity but this bill was behind closed doors to the residence of Nebraska.  This is certainly a “dumb” statement to make to your Nebraska people since they elected you to your office that you now hold.  I cannot get a comment about Tri-Care from you so how
in the world could I have access to the fine print in this bill?  Then to top this off, Senator Reid provides the President with comments about his back ground and if this was a Republican comment we would never heard the last of it?  Washington is full of politicians, just how many are “statesmen” today?

By the way, Yvonne and I were at Fort Sam Houston last fall for several days.  We noted that many military people were in wheel chairs and were racing them for competition.  All of them were missing some legs and arms – what will happen when we loose Tri-Care for their service?  Oh, I understand, our President made a comment that these soldiers volunteered for the service and it is up to them to pay for their medical care!  Many of in Nebraska are very angry about your actions and you will learn about them in your next bid for re-election sir!

By the way my web site is www.woodlakenebraskalinks.com.  You and your staff should take a look as this will be noticed by many as this e-mail will be posted on the site.  Thank you for reading my comments.

SENATOR NELSON LETTER TO ME

1/06/2010

Dear Claude:

Thank you for contacting me.  I genuinely appreciate hearing from Nebraska's civic-minded individuals such as yourself.

As you know, America's system of government was designed to encourage participation by our citizens.  I am thrilled that this year, more Nebraskans have contacted me with their ideas and concerns than any other year since I have been in office, by far.  Every piece of correspondence I receive influences the decisions I make on pending legislation.

I will continue to look at every issue individually and - just as I did when I served as your Governor - do what I think is best for Nebraska and our country.  From my first day in the United States Senate, I vowed to work for the people of Nebraska without regard to partisanship or party affiliation.  I treat the current President with the same respect as I did the previous one - I support him when I can and oppose him when I must.  Above all, I always vote for what I think is right for Nebraska.

Your comments and concerns are an important part of the legislative process, and I encourage you to continue sharing your thoughts and ideas.  Thank you again for contacting me; I look forward to future correspondence.

Sincerely,

Ben Nelson

o   Reduce the federal deficit by $134 billion by 2019, and by as much as $1.3 trillion by 2029.

o   Extend the solvency of the Medicare program by an additional nine years, to 2026.

o   Narrow the Medicare prescription drug "donut hole" coverage gap for Medicare beneficiaries.

o   Provide affordable coverage to more than 30 million uninsured Americans, and stop the current shift of uncompensated care costs to those of us with insurance coverage.

o   Reform insurance practices to end denials for pre-existing conditions, ban lifetime and annual limits, and require insurance companies to pay out, at a minimum, 80 cents in medical care for every dollar they receive.

o   Control health care costs well into the future, while improving quality and access.

This bill takes a market-based approach, offering tax credits for middle-class Americans to help make insurance more affordable; and it improves the delivery of health care for all of us while reducing the deficit

I have posted links to the legislation, as well as other resources pertaining to the current health care reform debate, on the Health Reform feature on my website at:

http://bennelson.senate.gov/feature_healthcare.cfm

I hope you find this information useful.

As you may know, when Congress reconvenes in January after the winter recess, both chambers' health care reform bills will be brought together in conference committee, undergoing further deliberation and compromise to generate a final piece of legislation to be approved by the Senate and House of Representatives.

Sincerely,

Ben Nelson
U.S. Senator

Dear Senator Nelson:

Thank you for your generic letter that obviously you sent to all that contacted you and your office.  It did not say anymore then what we get from Fox, CNN and CBS news.  You certainly have not made many states happy about your added “sugar” for Nebraska in you vote.  I have written five E-mail letters requesting information about TRI-CARE for Life for the military and you have just ignored me and not responded like a Senator should from our state.

Your TV ad during the Nebraska game seemed phony to many of us also.  You are pushing in the wrong direction for this health bill and need to focus on what Nebraska citizen’s desire; but you will not!  That will be you’re loose in the end results sir.  Oh, last comments, “Happy New Year” to you and your staff.

By the way my web site is www.woodlakenebraskalinks.com.  You and your staff should take a look as this will be noticed by many as this e-mail will be posted on the site forever!  Thank you for reading my comments.

Dear Senator Nelson:

Senator Nelson, you let your fellow Nebraskan’s down by 100 percent in accepting a compromise on abortions.  Yes, Nebraska can opt out; thus, causing a person to go to another state to have the procedure done.  I can see it now, California, New York, Mass and many other states will not opt out of this procedure.  The tax payer will still pay for the procedure and probably it will cost more in other states.  Wow, what a deal you made.  Well sir, that put the lid on the jar for us.  Yvonne and I will never vote for you again as you failed us 100 percent.  You or your staff never answered my request on Tri-Care or even said, “I don’ know”!

You will not go down in history now as a great senator from Nebraska.  The voting box below will indicate our intentions for the future.  You can take me off your mailing list and do not send me anymore letter on any subject as I do not trust your leadership.  A definition for leadership is the “Art of influencing others” and management is the “Art of Arts”!  You have neither now.  You should have voted no on the Health Care Draft period!

            A vote for Senator Nelson

            Other candidate                                                     X

Dear Senator Nelson:

Senator Nelson, I understand that you and your staff are very busy.  Yet, as of this date, you have not answered my request, is Tri-Care for Life part of this health package?  This is the only insurance that I have including Medicare and Medicare only pays about 1/3 of the bills.  The president stated several times that Tri-Care for military would not be affected; yet, I am convenienced that this is not so at this time.  I am also against abortions and hope that you get this changed in this bill and the combination bill once this is passed.  Some churches communicated with you about abortions and that they would accept this in the bill; however, about 63 percent of our Nebraska citizens object in total.  I hope that you listen to the majority when they speak.  I am asking you to “stick” to your position and not cave in to the liberals that rule!   Blue-Cross and Shield of Nebraska already has stated that premiums will go up to about $1300.00 a month for the younger generation and families.  The residents of Nebraska are caught up in the middle and it looks very dim for our future health care needs.  My wife and I pay into medicate about $190.00 a month now!

Dear Senator Nelson:

Senator Nelson, the comment that Senator Reid made about the GOP and Slavery is not appropriate and necessary.  Obviously, his degree in Human Relations does not apply in today’s climate.  It is my observation that the liberals and conservatives need to council him and set an example for him to follow!  A man of his profession needs to be at 100 percent all the time; with fellow senators and the public.  I am ashamed of his response!

Well, our door is still closed and we will post this on my web site until I get a specific answer about Tri-Care benefits and this e-mail in about Senator Reid’s comments and the proposed health bill.  When I was very young, I asked my dad why Zebras and skunks had strips; his reply was – with them or without them they still are what they are when you look at them!  People are alike; they do and say what they are when they feel like it!  By the way my web site is www.woodlakenebraskalinks.com.  You and your staff should take a look as this will be noticed by many!  Thank you for reading my comments.

Dear Senator Nelson:

I have asked several Senators about Tri-Care for Life for veterans and have not received a reply about this being in the new proposed health bill.

It is my observation that about 6 million veterans will loose out when this new bill gets passed.  Having served 36 plus years, this will not make me
very happy to say the least for sure.  Now we have a representative from Montana providing favors for a mistress!  What is next for the American taxpayer?
I am ashamed of double standards from our representatives in Washington D.C.  We are expected to take what ever is given us and accept it without
due representation.  Well, our door is still closed and we will post this on my web site until I get a specific answer about Tri-Care benefits in this health bill.  By the way my web site is www.woodlakenebraskalinks.com.  You and your staff should take a look as this will be noticed by many!  Thank you for reading my comments.

 Dear Senator Nelson:

It is Yvonne and my observation and plan to meet behind closed doors Saturday, Nov 21st to discuss
our voting procedure for any of your future elections.  This will be not open to the news media; CNN,
ABC, CBS, ABC, Fox, or ESPN and only lobbyist that has an income of 1 Trillion dollars will be able
to attend.  It is our observation and obvious to us that our liberal representatives in Washington started
a trend for us to follow.  We will announce our intentions after you have recorded the final vote on
the Health Care issue.  The results will be posted on my Web Site – www.woodlakenebraskalinks.com
as an open letter.  This letter will be posted on Nov 21st 2009 on this same site.  We hope this meets
with your satisfaction and we in Nebraska are giving the same treatment to our elected Washington
officials as given to us to accept!  Thank you for reading my E-mail letter.
